What is Zeolite?
Zeolite is a naturally occurring volcanic mineral and natural supplement that is mined in several places around the globe. Molten lava and heavy ash spew forth when volcanoes erupt. Because many volcanoes are on islands or near water, lava and ash frequently flow into the sea. Minerals like zeolite are created in solidified lava over thousands of years as a result of a chemical reaction between volcanic ash and sea salt.
The fact that zeolite is not only one of the few negatively-charged minerals found in nature, but it also has an outstanding crystalline structure adds to its appeal. Big, empty spaces- or cages- in zeolite allow large, positively charged ions to be attracted to it, then trapped and removed from the body. Heavy metals, such as mercury, lead, cadmium, and arsenic, as well as plastics, PCBs, depleted uranium, Teflon, free radicals, pesticides, and herbicides, bind to zeolite.
Because of its structure and the fact that it is one of the few negatively charged minerals in nature, zeolite functions as a magnet, attracting and trapping positively charged pollutants within its microporous structure.
Small molecules (approximately between 3 and 10 angstroms) can enter zeolite through cages or channels that are the proper size. Mercury, heavy metals and poisons are drawn into the zeolite's cage-like structure and taken out of the cell, where they are removed by the body.
